vol.70 できるだけ大きい器の中で仕事をしたいものです

日本中どこの都市に住んでいても、市の広報が配られてくることでしょう。
この中に議員の質問の要点がまとめられ公開されています。
いつもこれに目を通しますが、その都度議員が気の毒に思えてなりません。
彼らの要望がすべて実現したとしても個性ある街づくりにはならないと感ずるからです。
小さい器（５万人都市）ではどんなに頑張っても雄大な絵は描けません。

昭和６１年に山口県の４次展望策定委員となり、県の１０年計画作りに１年間参画しました。
山口を８つにまとめたオクトピア構想なるものができ、その中に３０万都市が４つできるはずでした。
所謂中核都市ですが、１８年経って実現できたのは下関市だけです。
私の住む光市も為政者の反対で県の計画が進まず、小さい器の中で甘んじています。
中核都市は現在３７ですが、この位の規模、器なら議員も提案しがいがあると思うのです。

私は地元を代表する企業に就職ができ、ゆったりとした社風の中で研究することができました。
優秀な先輩も多く、ものの考え方をはじめ、報告書の書き方まで指導を受けました。
独立して物づくり事業を始めた今も、先輩達の数々の言動が場面場面で役立っています。
小さい器の中で働く仲間にどれほどの指導ができるかと、私自身心配になります。
議会報告書を見る度に、せめて中核都市に住みたいものだと苛立ちを感じ心を痛めます。
