vol.60 ヤーコンが取り持つご縁で広がる全国の仲間

本欄に度々コメントを頂戴している岐阜の三宅さんから、
「ヤーコンの詩」なる小冊子を送っていただきました。
三宅さんは以前、母上とともに弊社に来られ、ヤーコン談義をした仲です。
この度、7年間のご自身の栽培記録を、ヤーコンの立場になってまとめられたユーモアあふれる作品です。

考えてみればヤーコンにとって、アンデスから日本に来たことは迷惑なことだったと言えましょう。
環境、特に気候が全く違い、日本の夏の暑さも冬の寒さも初めての体験です。
三宅さんはこの当たりの事を、栽培体験の中から的確に掴んでおられます。
そんな中でも日本に適応しようと努めるヤーコンがあり、
一方で、植物は環境に適応する能力があるようだとの観察眼を働かせておられます。

川崎市に在住のビクターレコード歌手、根本美恵子さんとの出会いも偶然です。
平成9年11月、ニッポン放送のズームイン朝の番組で、私ども夫婦がヤーコンを紹介した事に始まります。
そして生まれたのがヤーコン応援歌「ヤーコンで今日は」でした。
歌詞を読むだけでヤーコンがどんなお芋か分かり、メロディーが童謡調で口ずさみ易く、元気の出る歌です。
これがご縁で長いお付き合いをさせていただいています。

書けば切りのないヤーコンを通しての出会い。
ただ、栽培農家の方々には随分迷惑をかけたなと心の痛む思いです。
それもヤーコンが日本に適合できずに苦しんでいた事と相関しています。
作れば殆どひび割れで消費者からは敬遠され、腐り易くてカビが生え加工業者を泣かせます。
昨年北海道の栽培者とお出会いし、やっと長期保存できる方法が見つかりました。
日本に馴染むヤーコン誕生と、腐らない強いヤーコンの登場です。出会いから得た貴重な経験です。
今年は色々な意味でヤーコン元年です。
